The European Commission has launched the project Mapping study (phase II): Mapping of Broadband Services in Europe SMART 2014/0016. This project builds on the Study on Broadband and Infrastructure Mapping – SMART 2012/0022.
In the scope of the SMART 2014/0016 project, an interactive online mapping application will aggregate and benchmark measurements of broadband connectivity. All Member States of the EU and EEA will be covered.
The online database enables georeferenced queries regarding the quality of e.g. up- and download speeds and latency for different technologies deployed all over Europe. The data will provide information on two aspects
- The calculated availability of Service based on predicted network performance of the infrastructure.
- Measurements of Quality of Service, including or excluding the end user’s environment
The database and online application are currently under development and will go live in 2017.
